NFC Division Winners Predictions for the 2018-2019 NFL Season

Following on from the previous blog post, Deejay will provide his insights into who he thinks will win each NFC Division and why.

NFC West

Los Angeles Rams. This division has some interesting storylines with the Seattle Seahawks always being a tough out with Russell Wilson at the helm and a stout defence under Pete Carroll, the return of David Johnson for the Arizona Cardinals and the further emergence of Jimmy Garoppolo under Kyle Shanahan for the San Francisco 49ers. However, the previous division winner in the Los Angeles Rams, appear to have gotten even better with all their offseason acquisitions to provide tremendous skill and playmakers all around on both offense and defence. I believe Aaron Donald will end his holdout soon once he comes to terms with an extension, then, the team will be fully loaded and ready to go once the season starts to take the division once again.

NFC East

New York Giants. It has been fourteen years since the last time a team in the NFC East has won the division in consecutive seasons and I believe the trend of a different division winner will occur again this year. The Philadelphia Eagles will still make the playoffs and be a big threat this year, but the potential late return of Carson Wentz is what sets them back a little bit in my opinion which leads me to believe the New York Giants will win the NFC East this year. Their defence remains solid, but what I think puts them over the top in the division will be their offense with an improved offensive line, a new Head Coach, the return of Odell Beckham Jr. and the addition of Saquon Barkley. This will all help the offense control the ball better, be successful and help make up for any deficiencies the defence might have.

NFC North

Green Bay Packers. The Minnesota Vikings and the Green Bay Packers appear to be the one and two for this division, but in terms of who is number one and who is number two is the big question. Aaron Rodgers is one of the most skilled Quarterbacks in the history of the game, but an injury cost him half the season last year and thus hurt the Packers’ chances at success. I believe his return, along with the addition of Jimmy Graham will make their offense that much deadlier and difficult to stop. Pair that with what appears to be an improved defence with more depth in the secondary after drafting Jaire Alexander and Josh Jackson, and giving a fresh start to Muhammed Wilkerson, and you have what should be a great bounce back year for the Packers where they will push to the top over the Vikings in the division.

NFC South

Atlanta Falcons. This division is going to be a battle down to the end of the season to determine its winner just like it was last season. I believe that again, three teams will be in major competition from this division for the crown and the playoffs in the New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons. However, I believe the team that will standout and win will be the Atlanta Falcons. Both sides of the ball have improved by adding key pieces to their roster to bolster the offensive line (signing Brandon Fusco), receiving corps (drafting Calvin Ridley), defensive line (drafting Deadrin Senat) and secondary (drafting Isaiah Oliver). I believe their offense must and will get better after another training camp with Steve Sarkisian to bring the team back into the upper echelon of offenses like they were under Kyle Shanahan. In my opinion, this improvement on offense will be what pushes Atlanta ahead of the Saints and Panthers to take the division crown.
